It feeds the Damage Sim

The SimBench add-on reads your character, and the Forever Damage Sim on this site turns it into numbers. Export in game, paste the string into the sim's Your character box, and your class's builds use your real gear.

Open the Damage Sim

What it does

  • One line of textOut of combat, /simbench opens a box with your gear, talents and stats as one string, already selected. Press Ctrl+C (Cmd+C on a Mac).
  • Easy to reachType the command, click the Sim button on the Character panel, pick SimBench in the add-on menu by the minimap, or bind a key.
  • The sim lives on this siteOpen the Forever Damage Sim here, in any browser. In game, /simbench sim (or the Where's the sim? button) shows its address, ready to copy.
  • A cut-off copy is caughtThe string has a checksum, so a copy that got cut off is rejected instead of misread. Sharing one on Discord? Put it in a code block so parts of it don't turn into emoji.
  • Says what it couldn't readNotes such as "Found your quiver but couldn't read its haste" appear under the string in game and under the box in the sim.
  • Matched by formatThe add-on and the sim match on the string's format, not on version numbers. If you paste a string from an older SimBench, the sim asks you to update the add-on. From a newer one, it asks you to reload the page. Either way, you never get wrong numbers.
  • Ready for a reported Forever client issueThe Forever beta client has been reported to sometimes fail to load add-on data. If a character's saved data fails to load, SimBench warns you in chat instead of quietly starting empty (unless both of its files fail at once, which looks like a fresh install). Exporting again is usually all you need.

Display only, no automation. The add-on reads your character out of combat and shows a box of text. It never casts, targets, moves or clicks anything for you, and it sends nothing to anyone.

How to use it

  1. Export your character. Out of combat, type /simbench (or use the Sim button, the add-on menu or your key). A box opens with the string selected. Press Ctrl+C (Cmd+C on a Mac).
  2. Open the sim. Go to the Damage Sim on this site. In game, /simbench sim shows its address.
  3. Paste it in. Open Your character at the top of the sim, paste, and click Use this character. The gear level switches to Your character: your class's builds use your gear, and everyone else keeps the preset gear you had picked. The sim remembers the string in that browser until you click Stop using it.

The sim

  • Targets: cloth, leather and plate players (damage in the first seconds of a fight, or time to kill) or a raid boss (sustained damage).
  • Duels: pick your build to play out 1v1 duels against every selected build, with win rates, draws and a stress test of what swings each matchup.
  • Settings: gear level (fresh 60, pre-raid, projected raid, or your character), raid buffs, boss armor debuffs, races and racials, class filter, and duel options.
  • Character sheets: every build's stats at each gear level, and yours once imported.
  • What importing uses: your item and set-bonus stats (with each class's base stats), weapons, ammo and quiver. The sim applies race (yours, from the string), talents and buffs itself, as it does for the presets. Talents come from the build you pick, and the sim suggests one from your talent points.

Theorycraft estimates. The sim's numbers come from a computer model of a game that's still being tuned. Forever's beta values change, and the model fills gaps with Classic's rules. Use them to compare builds and gear, not as promises.

What's in the string

Add-on version, class, race, faction, level, client build, date, talent tree names, talent points and ranks per tree, equipped item IDs and enchant IDs, weapon damage and speed, ammo damage, quiver haste, summed item stats, active set bonuses, your character-sheet numbers, your active buff IDs, and a list of anything it couldn't read.

Not included: your name, realm, guild, or anything about other players.

Commands

  • /simbenchExport (out of combat)
  • /simbench simWhere the sim page is, in a box you can copy
  • /simbench lastShow this character's last export again
  • /simbench checkWhat your client supports and what an export reads right now, and whether your saved data loaded
  • /simbench itemsRaw stats of each equipped item
  • /simbench verifyPaste a string to check it's complete
  • /simbench buttonShow or hide the Character-panel button

Good to know

  • Export between pulls. Forever uses the same add-on rules as Midnight: during combat, stats come back as "secret values" that add-ons can't read.
  • Enchants are listed by ID but not counted, matching the sim, which leaves them out.
  • Set bonuses that are plain stats are counted (on non-English clients, only the main stats; other bonuses are listed by number). Procs, ability changes and conditional bonuses are listed for the sim, never guessed into the stat totals.
  • Talents are read from your active spec; if the game only gives points per tree, those are exported and you pick the talents in the sim. Export again after switching specs.
  • Right after logging in, some items may not have loaded yet. The export says which and asks the game to load them, so exporting again a few seconds later works.
  • The sim models level 60.

Install

  1. With an add-on manager: in the CurseForge app or WowUp, search for Vulcan SimBench and install it for World of Warcraft: Forever.
  2. By hand: download the zip (the Download button above), unzip it, and copy the VulcanSimBench folder into the Interface\AddOns\ folder of your Forever game folder. To find it, open Battle.net, select the Forever game, click the gear icon and choose Show in Explorer, or Show in Finder on a Mac.
  3. Turn it on: at the character screen, click AddOns and make sure Vulcan SimBench is ticked. If it's greyed out as "out of date", tick Load out of date AddOns.
