What it does

Vulcan DuoQuest puts your partner's quest log next to yours, and warns you before you leave town if one of you picked up a quest there that the other doesn't have. Both of you need it for the full picture. Without it on your partner's side, the window still shows which of your quests they're not on (the game reports that for party members), but not their quests.

  • What each of you is missingYour quests your partner doesn't have, with a Share button, and their quests you don't have.
  • Objective progress side by sideFor quests you're both on, each side shows ready, failed, a single objective's progress (6/10, or 45% for a bar), or objectives done.
  • A warning before you leaveWhen you open a flight map, start casting your Hearthstone, walk away from the hub, or cross into a new zone on foot, you get one warning if, since you both arrived at this hub, one of you picked up a quest here that the other doesn't have. Each gap is warned about once.
  • Notes in chatYou get a chat note when your partner picks up a quest you don't have, or you pick up one they don't, while you're at different hubs (more than about 200 yards apart). Anywhere, you also get one when they finish the objectives of a quest you're both on and you haven't.
  • Share in one press/dq share or its key binding shares the next quest your partner needs, one per use. Share greys out while they're more than about 40 yards away, offline, or in a dungeon you're not in.
  • An ignore listRight-click a quest (a class quest your partner can't take, say) to leave it out of warnings, notes and /dq share.
  • Ready for a reported Forever client issueThe Forever beta client has been reported to sometimes fail to load add-on data. If a character's saved data fails to load, Vulcan DuoQuest warns you in chat instead of quietly starting from defaults, and tells you which file to copy before you log out or /reload (unless both of its files fail at once, which looks like a fresh install).

Display only, no automation. The one thing Vulcan DuoQuest ever does in the game is share a quest, and only when you click Share, press its key binding or type /dq share. It never accepts, completes, abandons, casts, targets or moves for you.

The window

It appears when you group up with someone to compare with: a partner running Vulcan DuoQuest, or the one other player in a two-person group. /dq solo on keeps it up always.

What it sends

Add-on messages go to your party, raid or instance group only, never to whispers, guild or public channels, and only while sync is on. Each starts with the sync protocol number. Both of you need a version that speaks the same sync protocol; if your versions differ, you each get a one-time note.

Messages Vulcan DuoQuest sends to your group
MessageContents
Hello / byeYour add-on version and a random session ID; "bye" when you turn sync off or leave
Quest listThe quest IDs in your log, each with a few status flags and a short checksum
Quest updateOne quest's ID, status flags, level, title and objective text with progress
DoneOne quest's ID, when you finish its objectives
Turned inIDs of your partner's quests that you've already turned in
Resend requestWhich quests your client needs again after a lost message

Nothing else is sent: no location, no character details beyond your name (which the game shows anyway), no history.

Commands

  • /dqShow or hide the window
  • /dq statusEvery gap in chat
  • /dq shareShare the next quest your partner needs (/dq share all lists them)
  • /dq partner <name>Choose who to compare with in a bigger group (/dq partner auto undoes it)
  • /dq ignore <quest>Leave a quest out of warnings, notes and /dq share (/dq ignore list shows them)
  • /dq warnThe leave warning on or off (add on or off)
  • /dq notifyChat notes on or off; /dq sound and /dq objectives work the same way
  • /dq soloKeep the window up even with nobody to compare with (add on or off)
  • /dq syncSync on or off
  • /dq checkWhat your client supports, and whether your saved data loaded

Good to know

  • Level, class and quest-chain requirements aren't known, so a quest your partner has may show as missing for you even if you can't take it yet. Right-click it to ignore it.
  • The leave warning never fires while you're dead or flying, or for a random groupmate without Vulcan DuoQuest (unless you picked them with /dq partner), and waits for a fight to end.
  • Boats, zeppelins, the tram, mage portals, dungeon entrances and teleports other than a Hearthstone give no departure signal. You hear about gaps about 15 seconds after you walk away from the hub, if that happens before the loading screen, otherwise not at all.
  • Bonus objectives and other area tasks aren't compared: you both get those just by being there.

Install

  1. With an add-on manager: in the CurseForge app or WowUp, search for Vulcan DuoQuest and install it for World of Warcraft: Forever.
  2. By hand: download the zip (the Download button above), unzip it, and copy the VulcanDuoQuest folder into the Interface\AddOns\ folder of your Forever game folder. To find it, open Battle.net, select the Forever game, click the gear icon and choose Show in Explorer.
  3. Turn it on: at the character screen, click AddOns and make sure Vulcan DuoQuest is ticked. If it's greyed out as "out of date", tick Load out of date AddOns.
  4. Playing as a pair? Both of you install it.
